Was somehow very much bothered by the rob & gang-raped cases in Johor lately. Especially on the case of a pregnant woman being raped in front of her 3 year old son. Damn! They are inhuman! Worse than a beast! And if you realise, most of the victims are Chinese. For the past 2 weeks most Johorean was involved in the petition to urge the policemen to 'start working'! Things has been getting out of hand. They even rejected report on rob cases. This isn't recent. Oh ya man, how are they gonna catch them? sama sama look! sama sama skin colour!
Years back, i had the experience of being 'collected' $ by policeman just outside the Wong Ah Fook police station. We parked the car in front of a currency exchange shop and i was waiting in the car. We were done withing minutes. He walked to us detained our passport saying we can't park the car there. At that time, there were rows of cars among ours. He demanded S$300 at first. And after much negotiation was reduced to S$100. Just feel that many at times, dunno how or why they are just not at the right place at the right time. Ya, booking at vehicles that made illegal turning.... booking at S'pore driver without seatbelt... and then settle with tens of dollars. I understand, they dun earn any for catching robbers, thieves and the bad guys out there. Why would they risk their lifes fighting against the rotten eggs? So now, a petition of targetted 10,000 signatures to be submitted requesting for more police force and tighter patrolling... will this helps? for how long? Must they resort to this for action to be done?
What's the point of promoting Tourism and IDR when the security and safety of the people are not ensured? It flames whenever i read from paper on those talking about IDR and how they can benefit from it, the investment opportunity and the economic development it can bring.... blah blah blah.... Will you prosper when your people are suffering? Will you benefit from it when your natives are full of doubts? Will you profit when no one dares to walk on the street?
It's quite disheartening. For me especially whom has been living there for many years. I used to walk on the street at night, or even midnite going home across the causeway. And in the early morning at 6am, walking to the bus-stop was not intimidating. Now, it's a drag to go home, it's a half-hearted journey to travel, it's a worry and anxious drive on the road. It's a heart-pumping and paranoid feeling waiting in the car, walking on the street, getting a parking lot, shopping for groceries.....
I remember during my secondary school days when i started taking bus 170 to school, there are bound to be some sex-maniac or molester. When everyone started pushing to board, you'll hear women screaming and shouting. I learned my lesson and would hold my penknife or needle protecting my bums (in case you feel some fingers/hand touching you from below). Worse, when you're being 'sandwiched' and someone even breathed right on your face. Gosh! you'll thought: "i dun mind if it's Andy Lau or Tony Leong' ! Yak! But gentleman would try to avoid body contact. Those 'enjoying' are the colour wolves, dirty leopard, stinky mice. Mind you, the feeling was 'Aarghhhh.... and you feel dirty whole day'! Sigh,,,, and i'd always thought: "hey, you better not have daughter or wife..... " Anyway, guess this was what i have to go thru... glad it's not too serious lah. Now, the bottom line is, is this what the locals should do to protect themselves when they are out on the street? A weapon they need? Oh no, there will be no peace then..... are we in Iraq??? Human hurting/killing human!
